Sealy TrueForm Mattress - As Good As a Tempur-Pedic Mattress?

(Sealy True Form Mattress)

If you're looking for a memory foam mattress you're bound to come across the TrueForm mattress from the Sealy Posturepedic collection. The Sealy TrueForm may be cheaper than a Tempur-Pedic mattress but there's no point in buying a second-rate memory foam mattress. So, how does it compare to the market leader?

The Tempur-Pedic was the first memory foam mattress and remains the number one selling brand. It has set the benchmark by which all other brands are judged - and it would be true to say that many are found to be lacking.

Sealy is the world's largest mattress manufacturer and has a reputation of producing quality mattresses at an affordable price. In order to maintain its market position it has added its own version of the viscoelastic mattress, called the TrueForm, to it Sealy Posturepedic range of mattresses.

But how does the TrueForm rate against the Tempur-Pedic mattress? Well, first we must compare like with like. At present there are 3 mattresses in the TrueForm collection; the 8, 9 and 11 series. The number denotes the overall thickness of the mattress. However, there are far more Tempur-Pedic mattresses, including the ClassicBed, OriginalBed, GrandBed and CelebrityBed to name just four. Therefore, in order to make a comparison, I'll compare the 8 and 9 series with the Tempur-Pedic ClassicBed and the 11 series with the Tempur-Pedic DeluxeBed.

Both the 8 and 9 series have a top memory foam layer that is 3" high. The 8 series comes with a high-density base layer of 5" and the 9 series comes with 6". The Tempur-Pedic ClassicBed also comes with a 5" high-density base layer. The top layer is memory foam and is formed using a 0.8" comfort layer and a 2.8" support layer. The support layer has a density if 5.3 lbs/cubic foot which is comparable to the top memory foam layer of the TrueForm, which has a density of 5.3 lbs/cubic foot. The comfort layer is made using lower density memory foam.

Whether or not a mattress feels comfortable or not is a subjective opinion, but in all honesty I felt that both brands gave good support and had the same level of comfort - the TrueForm was perhaps a little softer, but the difference between them was negligible. However, with the TrueForm costing a lot less, I would definitely choose it over the ClassicBed.

The 11 series comes with a 6" high-density foam support base, with a 3" memory foam core and topped with a 1.5" layer of convoluted memory foam. The DeluxeBed comes with 2 high-density convoluted base layers, flowed by a 2.8" memory foam support layer and topped by 1.2" memory foam comfort layer.

Of the two, the DeluxeBed did feel more 'luxurious' to lie down on. However, it is considerably more expensive and I would seriously have to ask if the huge hike in price is worth it.

Overall, the memory foam mattresses in the Sealy PosturePedic collection are probably as good as, but certainly not better than, Tempur-Pedic. It would also seem that many consumer mattress reviews give it a high rating and believe it offers good value for money.
